Some things happen because of sheer will & determination. Other things happen because of divine opportunities & plain dumb luck. I experienced all of the above this year. And this is how Lulumière was born.
In the late summer, I was told about a local private craft show going that would be a great opportunity for me to present my candles. It would be at the University Women’s Club Holiday Market in October. It sounded lovely, so my friend reached out to them on my behalf. Unfortunately, all the spots were filled. Bummer! But not too long after, they called my friend and told her that a spot opened up for me. Yay! As you can see, this business has a lot of ups and downs. I did the show and it was a valuable learning opportunity. I was truly grateful for my sole 2016 showing! Or so I thought…
After the UWC show, that same friend reached out to another local show. This one was just a few weeks away, so she was checking for next November, obvi. Ayame Kai is a bustling Asian community craft fair that is always full. However, because of my friend’s outstanding reputation & veteran status at Ayame Kai, they said they were taking her recommendation and would make room for me! For this year! This year – like in 3 weeks.
In the meantime, I had already signed on to do a holiday show at our local high school. This would be just a week after Ayame Kai. Things were really moving.
But wait, there’s more! The first week of December, I ended up participating in two other lovely home events. Both of them far exceeded my expectations. Am I serial? Yes!
Several evenings each week, after the kids went to bed, I was pouring and measuring and melting and labeling and trimming. There were boxes of candles piled in every corner of our dining room. The house was a mess but the kitchen always smelled on point. Some days, it was Mrs.Claus’ house, other days like a citrus grove and then others like a legit hipster coffeehouse.
Fall 2015 was a whirlwind year for Lulumière. I had so much fun but I know I can improve tons – especially when it comes to inventory, organization & time management.
Ok – so what’s next? I’d love to say that I have 2016 planned out and that I’m going to be fully prepared this go at it. I don’t really know for sure though. I do know that I’m excited for some new scents, possible opportunities and a fun idea for my fall collection.
I ended last year & am beginning this one with a profound sense of gratitude. None of this would be possible without my spectacular family & friends. Cheers to you!
